Disc rot sucks. I've collected for Sega Saturn since the 90s and thankfully only lost one disc in the past few years due to rot (World Series Baseball... thankfully a cheap title). So for a whole few years of DVDs to die out must be due to how they were printed.
I've heard of disc rot, but of all the DVDs, blu-ray discs, and CDs I have, I can't say I've seen disc rot on any of them. I still have one of the first DVDs I ever bought (Austin Powers 2, which I bought in 2000, I believe), and I just watched it last year and it played flawlessly. I might be an anomaly though; maybe the discs I've bought are generally good discs.
