    Hey y'all,

    The other day I saw a video on the finger service and how people are bringing it back, and it got me thinking about Mystic... which doesn't (afaik) have a finger server built in... so I wrote one, as you do.

    Now any user who logs into my BBS as visible will be fingerable (chuckle)... try fingering me (chuckling louder)...

    In Linux (with a finger client installed);

    finger meatlotion@bbs.erb.pw

    It's a work in progress, and I'm still figuring out what I am able to get/put in the response, but... it's a start =)

    Love to get some feedback if anyone is interested.

    It's a work in progress, and I'm still figuring out what I am able to get/put in the response, but... it's a start =)

    What I recommend is a user interface to one or more files - one is probably adequate - replacing the .plan / .project files customary with a finger query.

    I also strongly recommend not reporting the user's originating IP address, which is also customary, but, I think, undesirable.

    *Very* cool.

    I have just made a menu option in the doors menu (pg2) to edit your own .plan file which is included in the finger response. Check out my updated finger response now =)

    If you log into my BBS, goto DOORS, press > for page 2 and then press A to edit the .plan file, you are able to put in what you like, save it and then you will have a more personalised response.

    Lemme know what you think.

    I don't know about the rest of you but I'm a little uncomfortable with folks fingering my BBS! :?

    ... What do you mean, QWK? It took me over an hour to read!

    So, its been a long time since I've used finger - and I forgot that it... reports LAST TIME at that IP/machine/etc. I executed the command when I wasn't logged into QW and see how cool a feature it is.

    Don't wanna st0ke you more, but thats super cool. Love that we can add a .plan, too.

    When I ran CNet, we used a stand alone windows finger server and the built in finger service in CNet for being able to show who was on the BBS, using a simple PHP script to display it.

    I would use this for being able to show on the webserver who is on.

    It sort of does, I wrote my own finger daemon and give each user on my bbs the ability to update their own .plan style file on the bbs.
