I've noticed over the last year, maybe longer that my message bases have a
ton of white spaces between messages.

For instance, I will see the start of the message and the remaining message
is like 15 pages down.

I'm sure this is an older bug perhaps, but I haven't had a chance to look
into it.

I recall that being a bug a while ago - which I dont recall it specifically being acknowledged/fixed, but it doesnt seem to be a problem anymore.

A46 is quote old, so you may want to update to something newer.

I believe that was a bug in A46 where each and every time you packed your message bases it would add a blank to certain messages. I think has been fixed in A47.

I've had the same issue in a46, and boy is it annoying! I haven't noticed it getting worse since I upgraded, but I'm not entirely certain because there's still a ton of white space in my message base. I'm curious to know if there's a way to get rid of all that, short of purging the entire message base and rescanning. Any ideas?

Deleting & re-scanning may indeed be easier, provided the extra whitespace isn't present in the messages on the hub. I've corrected a few messages on my board by pressing E while reading the message and then editing the body to remove the whitespace.

You'd have to do that for each and every message, so it would depend on how many messages you have which method you'd prefer to take.

Whew! I've got ~20k messages just on fsxNet! (o_O) I don't think they've all got the white space issue, but...that's a lot of messages to scroll through...

I'm still thinking about doing a completely fresh install of PiBBS, anyway. If I do go that route, this problem would be solved.

Yeah, I only did it with messages as I came across them (and if there were pages and pages of whitespace). I don't keep a large inventory of messages here, only about a year. If I needed to go way back for some reason Avon seems to have the entire back cataloge on Agency.

I've done that a couple of times, sometimes it bites me in the ass: "Ok, how did I install cryptlib again?", "What was that thing I installed via apt-get to parse HTML files?", "I hoped I backed up my GPG key!", "Dammit, I forgot
to put ./ in front of mutil for all of my events!" - You know, the fun stuff!

Ah, the never ending toils of a SysOp, eh?

Just wait until you get too nostalgic and want to run two systems... :P
