It soon became clear to me that the United States had lost this war. Many Americans still cannot believe it. After all, their president declared the war was won after just 24 hours.
The reality, however, is that Iran cannot be defeated from the air. The US is not prepared to send an occupying force. If the opponent subsequently refuses to surrender, you ultimately lose the conflict.
The leaked text was poorly received by many Americans, and that is understandable. Trump was furious at the time when Obama returned 150 million dollars of their own money to Iran. Now, according to the leaked documents, Iran is set to receive 300 billion dollars in external aid.
But who is going to pay that 300 billion dollars?
This war has already cost the US enormous sums. Moreover, within a few weeks, large parts of the strategic missile stockpile were consumed in an expensive, senseless, and ultimately lost war. Now we are waiting for a similar blunder by Xi, and then all three superpowers will have their own lost war behind them.
The outrage over the leaked text was so great in the US that calls were made to unilaterally amend the agreement. It is not difficult to imagine what Iran thinks of that. However, Trump preempted the commotion and signed the document a day earlier than planned. In doing so, he presented the critics in Washington with a fait accompli.
This conflict may be entering a quieter phase, but it is far from over. A large part of the American political class refuses to accept that the war is lost. Trump, however, has already signed the agreement.
The ceasefire is valid for sixty days. After that, there is a high probability that everything will derail again, because, according to critics, the US will not abide by these agreements.
