Campaign finance is to blame. Pandering for votes is one thing,
pandering to pay for your campaign is something else completely. Reform
campaign finance and you'll dynamically change US politics.

Someone told me a few years ago that the reason why they get paid such high salaries is to discourage them from taking bribes. But I don't think that plan was smart and it's definitely not working.

Hopefully DOGE will determine that congress is being paid too much for the amount of work being performed, or for the amount of qualifications required of them. They don't deserve $250k per year while people of the same educational background are driving plow trucks.
