I've areafixed ELIST again.

Do me a favor and post your help file here. I am a bit confused by conflicting
instructions I'm getting from you as if I am sending these updates to you via file attachment in netmail, the subject of my message is going to be the filename, not "MOD-UPD" or what-have-you.

Uhm, have you used netmail attachments much? If you attach a file to a message
you need to use the filename as the subject. You can't add a subject and attach a file. So what is it?

I know how to use the elist bot, Vince. I helped Ben write his replacement elist bot years ago.

The netmail itself is not processed by the program it only works on
files.

Yet what you just told me in email is the exact opposite of what you just told me here. I have a string of 20-something email messages and you've been clear as mud in every message.

You contradict yourself in every other message, Vince. Can we get it straight here? Over 20 years of dealing with the elist and I've never had so many problems doing something that should be very simple because I can't get a straight answer.

My elist program at the moment only processes files.
There are two types of file the first must have extension of .ECO or .eco.

This contains the MOD-ADD or MOD-UPD or MOD-DEL submission.

This submission file for MOD-ADD and can also be for MOD-UPD MUST contain the
following keywords:

SUBJ
FROM
TAG
GROUP
LANG
TITL
DESC
MOD

The other keywords as required.

The old keyword COMOD has been repalced by keywords:
COMOD1
COMOD2
COMOD3
COMOD4

and COMOD can, for now only be used with sub word of DELETE or NONE


This submission file can contain a set of rules bound within the keyword RULETEXT and ending with a line containing ---

The use of this terminator line is only needed when using RULETEXT.

You can in place of using the RULETEXT keyword also send a file with extension of .RUL and this contains the content of your rules.
There is no limit to the length of (or number of lines) of this .RUL file and the same applies to the number of lines after the keyword RULETEXT.

How ever it is limited in a lines length of 75 character in order to comply with the older BBS systems that are in use.

Please read the help file I send to you for more clarification.

file attach mailers require that the netmail with the attached file contain the
file's name and path in the subject line... this is how it has always been done...

the BSO tossers i've used that support files attached to a netmail also require
that the file's path and name is in the subject line... some of those BSO tossers will also send the (generally) empty netmail while others do not... but
both do set a link to the file in the flo file for the mailer to use...

then you have mailers that use fileboxes where you only need to drop a file in the filebox and off it goes with no netmail involved at all...

Yes agreed. The subject in the Netmail message is of not concern as it is not processed by the program. The mailer just drops off all attachments to the inbound directory where the program will process it from.

the BSO tossers i've used that support files attached to a netmail
also require that the file's path and name is in the subject line...
some of those BSO tossers will also send the (generally) empty netmail
while others do not... but both do set a link to the file in the flo
file for the mailer to use...

That is all fine for mbse the important thing is that the .ECO file has the correct keywords.

These are not in the .RUL file as that is just lines of text that will be copied over to a .RUL file with the name of the echo i.e., MBSE.RUL

then you have mailers that use fileboxes where you only need to drop a
file in the filebox and off it goes with no netmail involved at all...

Mbse does have that as a facilty in theory but I tried and failed to get it to work. That said It serves me no real purpose and if anything is a pain as without using it, I know all outbound files/message etc are in the same area for all links.

in your case, yes... and i think this is where part of the misunderstandings is
coming from...

The mailer just drops off all attachments to the inbound directory

right... the problem is that it may not be clear that there are two subject lines involved... the one in the netmail message carrying the attached file and
the one in the attached .eco file that tells the program what the file is attempting to do... if one uses an outbound filebox for your system, there's only one subject line involved and no netmail message... the clarity between the two subject lines is not always as visible as needed... this stems from the
format change of the file being sent which also breaks/negates the use of the existing echomod update tool that some have used forever...
